Energy trading constitutes an essential core process of the energy supply sector today. Since the deregulation of the energy market in 1998, energy trading has become a central and particularly profitable part of any energy supply company.
The complexity of energy trading is shown in the figure. To a great extent, energy trading is based on the interdependence between energy and billing data. The more accurate the energy and billing data is available, the easier it is to establish and assess a portfolio, ultimately resulting in energy trading. An energy supplier will obtain the most accurate energy and billing data from Smart Grids. This is yet another reason why Smart Grids provide a competitive commercial advantage.
